You can help fight climate change in many ways. The simplest is to start to think about how your actions impact on the world around you and start to act accordingly. You can do this every time you use power at home or at work, every time you make a purchase and every time you decide on where and how to travel.

Ride Planet Earth 2010

Event Details:

Date: 28th Nov 2010
Time: Any time.
Location: Any location around the World. Any highways, streets and dirt tracks, anywhere you can cycle, skate or walk.

Summary:

Ride Planet Earth 2010, held on 28th November 2010, is a day for all forms of sustainable transport to take over the streets of the world. Ride Planet Earth 2010 takes place the day before the COP16 begins in Mexico.

The aims of the action are:

(1) To demonstrate the capacity and willingness of ordinary people to take action against dangerous climate change.

(2) To promote action at all levels of society; individual, community, industry and government.

To promote an increase in sustainable transport infrastructure and funding across the globe, sustainable cheap mass transit, cycling infrastructure.

To urge all governments to agree to reduce greenhouse emissions to safe levels, agree on socially and ecologically sustainable means to do so and agree to start doing so immediately.

This includes the governments of developed countries to fulfill their international obligations, take responsibility for their historic and current greenhouse emissions by reducing emissions immediately and making domestic emission reduction targets of at least 40% by 2020.

And to assist countries in the developing world to adapt to climate change impacts, reduce their greenhouse emissions and finance low-carbon technology, enabling them to develop in an ecologically and socially sustainable way.

Method:

Wherever an individual or organisation is willing and capable of organising an action, a rally, a demonstration or event we urge them to join Ride Planet Earth and do so.

The specifics of each action or event are up to the organisers. They range from small groups of cyclists taking to the streets in their localities in a show of solidarity to large scale cycling actions taking over the streets to stop the use of automobiles.

We ask of the organisers to choose their route, their form of action, to invite people to participate and publicise the event locally and domestically.

We ask that during the action participants record video messages to be sent to their governments, to be made available to the public and to the negotiators at the COP16, explaining why we need to do stop climate change now, and what the participants are doing about it personally.

We ask that these messages be uploaded to YouTube under “Ride Planet Earth 2010 Messages” and we will get them heard during the COP16. Please also include the location when you upload (eg. “Ride Planet Earth 2010 Messages: Sydney” or “Ride Planet Earth 2010 Messages: Dar Es Salaam”). If you cannot video them please write them down and email them to the campaign manager at kim@rideplanetearth.org.

We ask that the events be documented on video or with photos and the footage and/or photos be made available to promote further action.

Actions have occurred in cities, towns and villages in every continent. We will keep doing this and keep on fighting until our planet is safe.
