Jeff Katrencik is preparing to set off on the 31st of July for his mammoth journey from New York City to Cancún, Mexico. He will travel through Canada, the United States and Mexico on his way to the COP16 UN Climate Change Summit this November. Be sure to follow his progress for the second installment of Ride Planet Earth – North America!
Kevin Moore of Bike-America.Org talks about hitting the highways of the US on the way to Washington DC to lobby the US Congress for Climate Change Action.
Matt Jones of Eco Trek 2010 explains why he is going to be Walking Planet Earth! Well, the entire length of the UK at least.

In December 2009 cyclists across the planet took to highways, streets and dirt tracks demonstrating their capacity and willingness to take action against dangerous climate change. On 28th November 2010 they will do it again to ensure a sustainable future for our planet.
Here are some of their messages. There are more to come.
The Ride Planet Earth Campaign is promoting behaviour change, focusing on sustainable transport and travel, as part of the action necessary to fight dangerous climate change. Fossil fuel based transport and travel accounts for roughly 35% of industrialised nations’ carbon emissions. Therefore addressing this issue is key to ensuring a safe and stable climate.
Ride Planet Earth is also raising awareness about the impact of climate change on communities in the non-industrialised world. We believe increased awareness leads to change, as people realise the potential impact their actions can have on vulnerable communities on the other side of the planet.
In July 2010 Jeff Katrencik will be setting off from New York City to cycle firstly to Canada, then head South to Mexico. He will arrive in Cancun on 28th November 2010, the day before the COP16 UN Climate Change Summit begins. Along the way Jeff will be visiting sites of environmental destruction to research the impacts of climate change and human industrial development on our planet. He will also be discovering the amazing range of solutions to these problems that people all over the world are working on. You can read all about his journey on the Ride Planet Earth Blog, as well as see his photos and videos.

On the Blog we are also featuring a range of other long distance sustainable adventurers, people going to the ends of the earth on bicycles, sailing boats, solar vehicles and their feet to demonstrate the capacity of humans to achieve without the destructive use of fossil fuels. These adventurers will also be describing the impacts of climate change they are finding in the most remote parts of the world, and the amazing people and solutions that can be found there as well.
Environments of the non-industrialised world have been subject to systematic and unchecked exploitation by industrialised countries from colonisation to the 21st Century. Environments and communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America have been devastated for decades by the unsustainable use of natural resources for the benefit of the Industrialised World, but these communities now face an even greater threat.
Climate Change is hitting the world’s poorest and most vulnerable first and hardest. Despite the fact it has been caused almost exclusively by greenhouse gases emitted to maintain the excesses of the Industrialised World.

The Ride Planet Earth Campaign raises awareness of the issues facing these communities, not protected by governments, insurance companies and advanced technologies, in the hope that the Industrialised World will realise change must start now. Change from governments, big business, communities and individuals.
We promote solutions; transport alternatives; socially and environmentally ethical consumption; sustainable production and renewable energy sources.
